Ok so I've been trolling this site and others, trying to decide what my new bike will be, and I think an Fz1 is for me. Now I'm just curious if the price the guy is giving me is at least half way decent. Now I live down in San Diego California, and he's 500 odd miles up the coast, so I will be flying up there to pick up the bike. That means I'll be assuming a lot on my way up there, since pictures can only say so much.
It's an 2009, 14k miles, has side and top Givi bags, a custom seat from some guy down in Kentucky(looks comfy at least) and a set of Battle Axe tires. He's asking 6950, which is a few hundred under the Nada high retail value.
The guy is a retired police officer, and we spoke on the phone for almost an hour. He seemed to know what he was talking about, and to have taken care of her, so assuming the bike is in as good of a condition as he says (excellent) is that a decent price?

The bags make it worth the price. I bought my 2007 stock for $6500 in Nov 2008 from a young man in Santa Cruz. The luggage and mounts are worth between $750 and $1000. If you don't want it, I'm sure someone on the forums would be happy to take the luggage off your hands.

We managed to negotiate it down a bit, so now I get to fly up there and take it own the 101 to break her in :D I most definitely want the luggage, especially w/ the quick release and all. They look dorky as hell, but ever since I got my bmw w/ just a top bag I've stopped worrying about what they look like since they're so damn use full.

It's high. I would not go over 6K and probably not much over 5,500 (as some others have said). You are right in the middle of PRIME motorcycle buying season. Prices drop when it gets cooler. People start selling their toys knowing they will not drive them during the winter (or selling off the old after they have bought a new toy :D). I have to be honest..... The cooler months gives the power to the buyer. Shop around or at least bargain with the owner you talked to. Sounds like a good guy. Unfortunately not every seller understands the market.
Do you have the pics? Could you post them if you do?
Was the owner a member of either forum? That leads to credibility and more info about your possible future bike.
There is nothing wrong with a fly and drive. I have had real good luck with them but you are smart to get as much info as you can before you buy that airline ticket. Good luck.
