Finally...another bike for DenArnold

Did you shoot any video during the course? Where was this held (geographically)?

Yes I did mount my Gopro on front of the bike. I shall upload on my youtube channel when time permits.
This course was ridden in the South East of Netherlands (EERSEL-POSTEL) close to the Belgian-Dutch border. Reason for the location is that many trails are off limits in Belgium (where you risk your bike get's impounded on top of some hefty fines)

The organisation of the course itself was great, but they now found out I'm connected as a motorcycle instructor to another organisation who also started to offer AllRoad courses, so they have now banned me from their courses (the f*/$/!!kers) despite me taking this course for personal development.

That's my stomping ground.

Who do you instruct with, Intertrack?

They must think your a spy. ;) Is your lucky number 007?

Took my little black Tigress out for a day ride to the Ardennes and ended up near the Grottes de Han. Downloaded an allroad route from routeyou.com which I trialled out. Underway some nice offroad sections, which were kinda slippery and muddy due to the rain...At the end I stopped at a famous Belgian landmark before heading back home.

First real allroad section, mix of cobbles and dirt

at the end of first offroad section, had to stop for a little prayer on this chappel at the side of the road

Across the street a large typical castle farm

Second offroad section: dirt and downhill

a typical belgian quality road, but now I've got the perfect bike for it :sinister:

Going up the hill towards

She'll need a wash up at home

a nice scenery at the end of the route

Having a short stop at the Belgian Atomium

I can see why the white 990 had problems on the exit to the little pit area. His rear tire was completely done. Momentum and a steady throttle hand are your friends on hills (tires help to), even small ones like that. I saw a 990 that looks very similar to mine in the group and an 1190 as well. Thanks for the videos!

You would love riding in my part of the world. I hope one day you can make it out here so I can show you around.

I find it satisfying to see another fellow rider discover the thrill of dual-sport riding, and discover how much of their country there is to "discover". It is like being a new rider all over again, with the same thrill!

I'll definitely will acept your invitation. Already warming up my misses to join, as she'd also love to visit Canada.

100% agree. Next week second offroad course level2 (the issues with the organiser have been diplomatically sorted out) I've been scouting for some local off roads, albeit short sections, I could take her out to enjoy the dirt...and I can practice this different style of riding.

Working through some more practical aspects of my attempts for allroading, i'm working through a checklist of things to modify and to have
1. raising front mudguard: done
2. looking to mount a luggage rack at the rear
3. dual purpse helmet: check

4. crossboots: ordered a size 47 RINO boots.

Had a blast day yesterday, riding almost entire day offroad through different terrains in the region of Tongeren.
Out of the 9 participants, 5 kissed the ground. Some hard, some minor. I made a beginners error by braking too hard my front in gravel, it stopped but slided and I could not just hold the bike and had to lay it down gently, but no damage.
Troughout the day we also did several steep, short slopes up and down, Uturn on a slope, etc. We rode through several ruts, narrow tractor wheeltracks. On one section due to being dry for days, the ground was quite hard and the ruts were really tricky. I noticed that these type of ruts was something I very dislike.
We also passed a hump in the road which we all jumped, but dunno how high I went. I do know I landed rear first, but front was quite hard and damaged my front mudguard. Nothing which some tiewraps could not fix.
Really enjoyed accelerating hard and taking off with drifting reartire.

Now the bad news. I stupidly forgot to take my Gopro cam from the charger and put it in the casing, which was already in my saddlebag. Took some pictures with my cellphone cam and the instructor took some.

some pictures of last offroad event in the region of Tongeren-Eben Emeal.

the pack, me on the foreground on pic1
1 Triumph, 1 Tiger Adventure, 1 Yam Tenere 660, 1 BMW F800GS, 5 BMW 1200GS and one brave lady on a Kawa W800. As mentioned, only the Beemers kissed the ground hard. (The instructor rode a KTM 1190 Adventure)

while we stopped, a bunch of schoolkids on a hike wanted to sit on our bikes. They were lovin' it

this type of scenery we've been enjoying all day. Some routes/roads were ploughed by farmers so we were just crossing ploughed land

Windows screen background was taken here :)

the typical narrow trails/ruts. The ones on this pic are quite wide

me going down a steep short slope with steps. No pic was taken when going up

My jump, both wheels off the ground, but landing the front damaged my mudguard. Front springs are too soft

which was quickly fixed with some tiewraps. Will need to lower the mudguard a inch AND to place stiffer springs

picture of the bike

selfie

the type of roads we rode whole day

at the back of the Belgian fortress Eben-Emael and the canal.

on the middle right you can see a bunker built in the stone walls

beautiful scenery

mine too, did it a few times :flash: afterwards we visited a dirt cross terrain with some higher humps, which was fun to cross up and down.
There was one long steep climb, which the instructor (it looked) easily rode up, but he did not want us to try under his watch. I took note of the location though and maybe one time I'll go back :waiting:

Also took my little black Tiger out to discover some local offroad sections near my home. Found a fun (but short) sandstrech and some local mountainbike roads.
Good for a short spin out to practice in different weather conditions
