HJC CL-Max II Review

Modular helmets are now standard for motorcycle police in California, I've been using them since 2004 & will never go back to the regular helmets but the issue with all modular helmets from the most expensive to the reasonably priced ones is that they offer poor jaw protection, my current helmet is Gmax a reasonably priced helmet that is very good & has an inner sun visor & LED light at the back, compared to Nolan & AGV it is better yet cheaper & has the best ventilation I ever experienced in any helmet I have tried.

Thanks. I guess I just miss the point of them. I really don't see how you could do any real riding with it open and if you're not riding, just take your helmet off.

The modular helmet is wonderful for those of us that wear glasses. You do not need to take your glasses off to put the helmet on or take it off. It is a pain trying to get the glasses' temples behind your ears if you have the correct helmet size and even with one too large. (I have large ears and there wasn't much room in the full face helmets between my ears and the cheek pieces for that manuever.) Also my floppy ears don't get folded over when I can spread out the sides of the helmet when putting it on (less wear and tear).

I have a Nolan N-104 and you can lock the chin bar in the up position for slow speed riding like in town and since I wear glasses it would be legal too. Not that I do. It also pulls down close to the shell so you don't have a "sail".

In the summer it's nice to be able to flip it up when stopping for gas rather than have your head in a sauna. Need to ask for directions or just have a conversation at a light, flip it up, light changes flip it down.

Exactly! Border crossings, shopping trips, banks, gas stations, hot days, roadside 'chats' with the authorities... ;)

So many benefits. I'm not sure I could go back to a standard full face
 
Eh, I wear earplugs so I'm not sure I'd get the same value as you guys. I looked at the several years ago when they were relatively new. Did they ever get the Snell rating?

I do, too. Having the front flipped up makes it so I can have a conversation with the plugs and helmet still on. Useful for stuff like border crossings and toll booths and so on

It's great
