Thanks for adding me to the forum.
I’ve got a 2020 Heritage, and a 2008 Fat Boy, which I love. Every time I go to the Harley dealership they keep trying to sell me a bagger (which I hate) I realized I wanted a fast good handling sport bike, I’m covered as far as Harley goes. I looked at the Ducati SuperSport, but the more I looked into them the more I found problems. I thought I wanted a BMW K1300 but took it for a test drive on a windy day and all most got blown off the highway because of the huge side fairing those have act like sails in the wind. I didn’t buy it for that reason and the fact BMWs are way down the list as far as reliability goes. A friend visited and he had a FJR, and turned me on to Yamaha, which was completely off my radar screen. Started searching CycleTrader then yesterday I came across a guy selling a 2006 RZ1 with 11K in Los Vegas, NM. Drove up this morning from Santa Fe, on my Heritage to check it out. I was stunning! Not a scratch on it in pristine condition. Took it for a short test ride and bought it. I left my Harley at his house and drove that gem back to Santa Fe ( an hour on I-25). I’ve never driven a sport bike before except two I test drove. The ride back to Santa Fe was my first real time on one. Got home and told my wife I bought a new bike — she thought I was joking. I told her she had to give me a ride back up to Los Vegas to get the Harley.
long story short, l love this bike! The hour long ride on the interstate was very comfortable, more comfortable than my Heritage in many ways. The FX1 was extremely stable at high speeds, got it up to 120 MPH but there were too many cars on the road to go much faster, plus I told myself over and over not to take a new unfamiliar bike to the limit until I got real comfortable on her, but damn I had a blast.
What are the first things to do on this bike? Everything is stock on it. I think first off some louder slip-ons. Any recommendations.? At some point I’ll up grade to LEDs. And what about the wind shield , a bit taller?
