In my experience, it's very common for dealerships to 'adjust' the service schedules of the vehicles they sell in an attempt to sell more frequent services. It's profit-based and thus driven into people's heads because someone wants to make money off it. This translates into myths and misinformation for the consumer.
Often they add services that are beyond the the manufacturer's recommendation (oil filter every change, more frequent change intervals, etc) under the guise of 'safety and protection' for 'your baby' because it's 'cheap insurance' but the reality is that these things are usually done with profit in mind only. Often people believe it because of old wives tales or experiences from the past. Things have changed a lot since our parents were wrenching on cars; oil technology and engine tolerances of yesterday are a far cry from today's vehicles.
Suzuki's intervals are 6000km oil changes & 18,000km oil filter changes. Seemed like a long time between oil filters but I'm happy to follow that spec and I guess we'll see what happens.
