Please help me vote AGAINST this!!!! Motorcycle only check points

I have had a few police pull me over and say they were "Drunk Fishing". LOL I train the drivers to respond "I am working officer - just like you. These night hours are tough". That usually works. People say "Just be respectful and you won't have any problems" That is true for the most part and for the first 20 stops - it's easy to be polite. After about 20 more stops - It starts to become really annoying. After 20 more stops - see what I mean?

Very interesting post. I only quoted part of it because we did not need that wall of text re-posted.

I had my first and last experience of this kind when I was first married. My wife and I drove 40 miles out of town to go see a movie(we were living in a small town with a crappy tiny theater) and because it was a late movie we were pulling into town sometime after midnight. I do not remember the exact time. I was not speeding, or weaving, but a local Sheriff decided to pull me over anyway.

He tried to use speed as an excuse and told me the speed limit of the area, after which I respectfully pointed down the road ahead to where the speed limit he quoted began, and how the are he pulled me over in was actually a faster limit........

He did not say he was drunk fishing, but that is what he was doing.

Lucky for us he realized he had no basis for holding us up and let us go home, but I can see how this could be a major bummer for people who work at night, especially those who deliver medicinal drugs.

Here in San Diego I think it would be a better use of time to stop all vehicles to look for valid licensed and insured drivers. My sister in law has been the victim of a hit and run recently, probably because he had no license or insurance, and a few years ago was hit by a non-US citizen who had no DL or Insurance. Both times she ended up on the short end of the stick having to pay her full deductible.

I know there are a large number of morons on bikes, but in reality if a guy on a motorcycle without insurance or a License hits your car his chances of running from you or the law are gonna be pretty low as he will be on the ground in many cases... I am guessing that is what this law is trying to prevent right?

I don't like the idea of check points. Ive had plenty of instances where officers were cool as hell. ie. getting pulled over doing 70+ in a 35. and getting a warning.

But its the ones where they are a- holes are the ones that stick with you.
Like getting rear ended and ending up in jail b/c i lost my temper and yelled at the guy who hit my 8 month old truck.

Or when my tires were worn out on that same truck and they squealed around corners no matter how fast you were going. I got a ticket for that. Complete B.S.

I dont need extra interactions. Its just a way to make money busting people for stupid crap.

woah, on what grounds were you arrested if there was (i am assuming) no physical contact with anyone. I was not aware yelling was an arrest-able offence, especially if you are not yelling at a police officer.

Road rage... I didn't get charged in the end just spent a few hours in the drunk tank. Got ot on a PR bond and the charge dropped.

Uh, how is that BS in any way?
The tires on GM vehicles squeal when you're turning when they get worn out its not like I was burning rubber. Just turning a corner. I told the judge lets go hop in my truck we won't break 10 mph and the tires will squeal all the way thru a turn. She said she didn't care, " THERE IS NO REASON YOU SHOULD EVER SQUEAL YOUR TIRE UPON BRAKING,TURNING OR ACCELERATING!" and yes she yelled it at me.
Cops here were getting out of control a few years back. Drinking and driving patrol cars, wrecks, letting people go when they should be arrested, and being over aggressive. They got some serious attention and several lost their jobs.

Maybe you should keep your vehicle properly maintained to avoid tickets in the future

Lol

For a few years, I worked evenings 4p-12a as a Correctional Officer. I have been pulled several times. Tag light, because my vehicle matched the description of a stolen vehicle, window tint, and once on my ZX7 but I don't remember why. Basically they were fishing. As soon as they see my uniform they say "have a good night, sorry". So I would say they pulled me 1/2 the time for reason. I could see where someone would get frustrated, but, it is what it is.

Thank you to everyone who has backed this proposition. We are making a difference. The numbers have jumped almost 500 votes in 3 days.
Thank you guys. I hope it keeps going.....
We need to reach 20K votes and we are at 4,294 today. Please feel free to re-post this anywhere you would like and keep this thing going up to the goal number.

Do you always have 800 bucks just laying around when your tires start wearing out? They had plenty of tread to be legal they just made a lot of noise. And Dustin if you knew me you wouldn't make a comment like that. I am on top of all of my vehicle maintenance. Only time I let stuff slide is if I don't have the $ right then.
In fact I buy so many parts for my vehicles I have a commercial account at advance.

I just wanted to chime in that at one point I drove around my grandpas old chevy pickup and he's right about the squeeling. There were two squeels, a very low one from the tires (even new) and another that was from the power steering pump whining (attempting to work like a whore at the end of the day). I loved it because I was 16 and I felt badass, but I never got pulled over.

You all forget that it helps in how you look. I'm tall, blond hair/blue eyed, wear glasses and whiter than snow. I probably get/got away with a ton of stuff just based on my look. I've been with darker/tan friends (black to italian) and honestly I've seen cops hassle them and as soon as they see me and I start talking, they leave us alone. My friends hate it because they know it's BS.

I know what it's like to have a crappy vehicle and no money. Been there, it sucks. It's part of the reason I only have motorcycles now! :) However, I have always ensured my tires were in proper condition as that's the most important piece of maintenance

the same reason I switched to a motorcycle. My last car I couldn't get to pass emissions and needed close to 2-3k to get it fixed up enough. I got the Fz6 for $3750. However, I didn't take into consideration gear and that hurt.

I drove on the tires on my POS car till I had a partial blowout (I got a huge bubble and a tread strip was whipping the $hit out of my fender) on the freeway, then got new ones and then drove on the rears moved up to the front until I had another blowout and this tire shredded and changing a tire on the side of the freeway sucks.

Guys. Quit egging each other on and leave things as is. Be friendly.

How does a post about voting against motorcycle check points go to off topic? Stay on topic.

Thanks in advance!

Ok so what happens if you just don't stop?

Like is this going to be similar to a weigh station for trucks?

Not saying I wont but yeah lol.

RI is too poor to implement these types of things anyways so I am not worried.

If RI is to poor, then AZ is too redneck, the only checkpoints we worry about are Border Patrol, looking for illegals and drugs. "Papers please" says the SS agent.
