Progression of Lunacy....a pictorial documentary and random discussion

Ill hopefully get the engine attached to the frame, but it is going to take some time b/c I'm up at the ranch for the rest of the week.......
Initial impression is , but I have to see it all together b/c I changed it up a bit......

Has been a rough two days.....I've been up North dealing with Contractors/Electric/Water, not to mention that Thursday was lost to a NASTY 24 hour bug....

So, I was not able to slow down enough until last night when I.....

cleaned up the back half of the engine and wiped down all cables and such to remove as much grime as possible. The mounting of the engine to the frame was alot easier then the removal. Maybe I learned something from disassembly.

Let the routing nightmare begin.....

I found a couple of issues with the powder coater's work from his storage. I thought about abandoing hope, but I'll have to come up with an alternative fix. Mainly around the steering tube of the frame where he did not listen to my intent as far as where to stop the coating, so there is a bit more exposed portions than I'd like.

Also, there is two areas that are marred, probably from storage until I picked it up from the shop, b/c it has been nothing but babied since my possession. It still looks great, and having the frame done made all the imperfections disappear....

I'll pickup the rest next week, and only have to get off my duff and get the bearins ordered.....

I'll probably need the help of some seasoned garage mechanics to learn how to cross reference bearings for I cannot afford (at least now) OEM pricing.....

I think it looks great Adam. Not sure from the picture exactly what your talking about in terms of imperfections, but from what I see it's pretty awesome! We're all here to help you get it together again buddy so don't worry.

Pic from Droid phone. On the left downtube are the imperfections from how it was stored before I p/u (cannot see unless up close)

and if you look closely, at the head tube, you can see where the finish is not applied and is like that on both sides. Also, the entire circumference of the upper portion does not have any coating. I know that there is a cap up above that covers 80% of it, but I'll still be able to see silver when assembled.

Methinks I'm just going to do a quick mask and shoot it with primer/paint so it does not become a rusting potential later on....

In between part 33 (screw) and 12 (gasket) there is a little protrusion on the airbox (2nd hole left inside)

I had a plug there that was dry rotted. I just wrapped some electrical tape around it to breathe new life into it. It is very light, foam material and don't know if it is meant to breathe or not suppose to be there at all since I can find anything on it....

Billy (clymer's). Aaron?

With the areas that you are explaining, I don't think a little touch up shooting will be noticable. Most of it will be hidden. Be sure to check over the remaining parts before you leave his place with them!

Looking 110% better already though! :D

it is mainly the downtube....just like you....it may not be noticeable to the regular observer, but it might as well be in NEON if I look at it.

My biggest hurdle are my allergies and this 50+MPH wind with no moisture in sight that is making the build hard right now....

Well, nothing to update since Friday b/c the entire family has one thing or another....:(

Not getting any traction on reassembly.....but the Ranch is coming along! I even had a reminder of the first ride I'm taking once up there so I'm not going to drag arse and miss it!

Should be able to make progress on Monday AFTER I get the tires rotated/fixed on the RV (3rd Party). P/U some misc fittings for the waterline. Service the truck(s) and my wife's car (3rd Party).

AND, go to the powdercoaters to get the last remaining bits!

so, more this week....

Adam

well, the short list has been made on the bearings.

Steering. Front Wheel. Rear Wheel. Swingarm. and some misc bits that did not come with the bike: Brake line holder. Isolation pad for tank mount (no more folded over packaging material for me). Some varioius covers for the radiator hose clamps.

Two other sources to check on pricing and then one last final push tomorrow for the ranch and then I can stay local and get some progress made on putting her back togerther again.

Oh yeah.....p/u the remaining bits from the powder coaters. Only the wheels remain when it is time to replace the rubber!

Still have to spend some time messing with all the Carbon Fiber bits that may/may not make it in this immediate future. If not, then during next winter (being that I've tracked down a complete set of OEM plastics in the meantime.....

So I did tinker around this evening. Sorted some of my hardware so that It was more refreshed in my memory as I start to reassemble. I also put my passenger pillion pegs back together and the misc hardware on swingarm and dumped a couple grams of sand from the sandblasting.

Fitted misc bling on to some of the pieces all why having a severe allergy attack. I'll have some teaser pictures tomorrow.

Pricing bearings.....(ouch)

Steering (upper/lower)
Front Wheel
Rear Wheel
Swingarm: connection to frame/two bearings (of (4) needed for the dog bones)

Honda dealer: 252.00 (Fantastic service rates....not as good on parts pricing)
Yamaha dealer: 199.00 (mix OEM/aftermarket)
