Progression of Lunacy....a pictorial documentary and random discussion

I share your sentiments Adam. I have been working on both mine and my wife's though so it's a little bit of satisfaction. :D I will be riding for two weeks soon though with Norm in Florida! :D

Well, I can guarantee that this last push, will not have me sidelined for the year.

If I can make it happen, sooooooooooooooo worth it :) (and maybe the first for this side of the pond)

So, over the past 48 hours, I've been chattin' with Luke (Devilsyam) about following Patrice's lead for the R1 conversion.

I'm going to step it up a level and go for broke with the 08 forks, 6 pot calipers, and also get the R1 rims (5 spoke) using Luke's misc trick bits for spacers/rotors/etc.

should have the front end secured tonight......

So, the front end is on it way and should be here middle of this week.

Devilsyam had stared the gather the necessary bits to make this happen. I've looked on eBay to find the remaining bits, but it is actually coming out dead even, or even cheaper for me to source the remaining parts from him.

PLUS, I do not have to worry about the condition of the parts coming from him for they will clean and pristine

The only hiccup in this in truly being fast tracked is my wife has decided it is time for a family vacation to destination unknown (ATM).

Oh well, eventually it'll be done.

Carb question:

Traced issue to cable routing for bike wanting to go full throttle. I've messed with this and that to try and get it to run, but need some advice since without normal materials.

Can anyone give me a pic of their bike from the left side looking at the throttle cables? Wanting to check the height for a general idea on a correct setup.

Once I verify that, and get approximate, ill start deducing from there.

No biggie if no response, just passing the time while I'm in town.

I'm going to wade through my photos to see if I have that view. If not, shoot a PM to Pilot8127 since he has the bike now. Maybe he could go take a couple of pics and post them for you.

triple tree setup with Gen 2 upper.

I'll be diggin out the front end today from the storage container and get some overdue shots.

......it is my understanding.....that the fork leg extender is fashioned in a way that is slides over the fork leg (actual outside diameter with tight fit) and the step is what slides into the upper tree to hold the top in place.

I have to try the different options available (with/without) and see what the effects are to the overall geometry. For I'd really like to keep the convertibars that I presently have for it lends itself to pretty much any handlebar configuration I can think of in one set. The clamps that are used go up to 51mm which should slide over the extender.

We shall see.....

Low bake powder for the Gen 2 upper and risers.

Hopefully can get the parts coming stateside and start assembly soon.

Luke, Devilsyam, has gone way beyond my expectations and only a matter of time before I too am tooling again on two wheels.

as with all my builds i approach with the view that if i can do it anyone can
i am not a engineer or ever worked in motorcycles
Indian Larry once said if it looks rite it will properly work and i sorta worked to this theory

Adam's install is a mirror of mine all he gets has been on my bike as it's not like i can nip over to fix summat lol

there is always the difference of opinion Adam wants to run converter bars and i have never tried them so that venture is his lol
I have take step by step photo's and added tips to avoid some of the issues i got into by trial and error

there is however some interesting things come out of the project example using the gen 2 upper and r1 2009/10 bottom tree requires no lock stop machining something needed on all other fitments and i'm so glad i didnt jump rite in as per mikes guide and cut them first
i bought the 2010 front fender thinking it was the same as 08 wrong different fitting so even i get it wrong sometimes but at least Adam will not have to learn the hard way
i also made 2 of everything as far as special tools went set for me and set for Adam so he can remove bearings the same way i did so if there's a issue were on the same page

i spent lot time sorting anodizers and special low bake paint sprayers to get the finish i wanted as to there durability time will tell luckily some of this was done for the cost of a beer or two

would i do it again hell yeah there will so far only 2 bikes in the world with this set up

I thank Adam for having the trust in me realize his dream it's been interesting and funny at times

interestingly im also changing the color scheme too then i'm done for now

so Adam it will look not to far off this ignore the fender tiz wrong un
