That's a kinda scary thing to happen. Especially on a main through way. Glad your okHow long were you stuck against the wall? I would want to get away from there quick!
almost 2 hours.... sucked. I should have pushed it off the freeway....How long were you stuck against the wall? I would want to get away from there quick!
I would have if there were ever a gap in traffic big enough. Being pinned up against that wall would make me most uncomfortable.almost 2 hours.... sucked. I should have pushed it off the freeway....
Based on your other post you've put on 6K since March. I've slowed down a little from the spring only doing 4K since April. Hope to get 250 today, did 600 last week, odo on spare bike now sits at 72K.67k, the other day. 09’. Runs like a top.
Yes sir, that is correct. Opposite for me. Pretty much only commute that bike. My T7 and dirt bike are my toys.Based on your other post you've put on 6K since March. No commuting..... my only office is the road less traveled........ and some that are travelled too often.
What was the reason for the motor replacement? The miles I've put on bikes:
1972 Triumph Trident. 1000 miles couldn't keep it operational long enough to ride
1974 Kawasaki Z1 45K miles including two trips across the USA (Still own)
1982 GS1100ez 106K miles only one trip cross country. (Still own)
2001 FZ1 285K miles replaced motor at 150K (Still own)
2001 FZ1 55K miles Current daily driver (Still own)
Bike was running good at 150K miles, using (not burning) a pint of oil every 3000 miles. It certainly wasn't as snappy as a new Gen 1 but it was still enough for enjoyable solo or two up rides. What was the reason for the motor replacement?
oh man that is an amazing idea. Buy an old gas station with a garage off some country road and turn it into a house.Bike was running good at 150K miles, using (not burning) a pint of oil every 3000 miles. A person selling a low mileage Gen 1 motor (4K miles) posted it for sale on FZ1OA for $450, so I drove to northern NJ and snatched it up. Took two days to swap, but I bet I could do it in 6 hours if I did it again. After working on these things for 20+ years you realize that everything goes back in only one place like electrical connectors, and you don't need to spend hours labeling stuff. That motor now has 135K miles on it. Frame has 285K.
In the mean time (2012) another seller this time from RI came along on FZ1OA with a perfect black 01 with 4K miles on it for $2900 (they were cheaper then). I call it the spare bike. It now has 72K on it.
Between two Gen 1s and three sets of rims I have very little maintenance down time from riding,............. but I'm running out of room. I've been looking for a small 3 or less bedroom home with multi garages (5+) for less than $1 million. They're out there in central new england, but get snapped up quick. Don't want an old barn situation, I want something newer that can be easily accessed from the living area. Might be easier to just put a few bedrooms in an old Mobil Gas Station, then I'd have the car lifts and pumps. (Wife may have other ideas!)
That is honestly the first time hearing about a starter motor failing?76k on a 2006 FZ1. A few minor issues (forks, o-rings, starter motor) but still going strong.
InterestingYeah, the brushes and contacts of the starter motor disintegrated into nearly powder one day when I started it! I was 200 miles from home and luckily I had the presence of mind to not turn it off unless I was a gas station on a hill to bump start it. I replaced it myself, which was a lot of work since I had to remove the throttle assembly. I opened the broken starter motor and a pile of chards fell out. That was at about 60k and the new motor that I got from UK on ebay is still working fine at 76k.
