I am gutted to notice a crack in the weld of my frame 06 FZ1. Last time i rode it was 2 weeks ago at a track day and the FZ1 performed awesome. I have parked it up and will try and figure out what to do in the next couple of weeks, this may be the end of the road with the FZ1 if i can't find a replacement frame. Bugger

As you can see crack goes all the way around. As you can imagine i am not to happy as this is something you don't check everytime you take your bike out for a ride?.

Someone one another forum in Holland also has a cracked weld in his 06 FZ1. he went to the dealer and they replaced the frame under warranty.

So justcontact Yamaha and they will prob tell you what to do so that it can be repaired.

Factory warranty ran out 2yrs ago, i may take the bike to get looked at by enginner and maybe getting it tig welded. It frightens me a bit to know possibly i did a track day with a cracked weld?.

Mate, I'd speak to Yamaha anyway.....some companies will repair out of warranty for extraordinary manufacturing faults. Can't hurt to ask.....

That sux mate. I thought it was only k6 Gixxer thou's that had this problem.
I would at least take it to Yamaha and ask some questions. Imagine what would have happened if the frame had cracked in half while you were riding it.
Definitely take it to Yamaha.

Mine broke almost aa the way around on the left side. My bike was bought used, it broke over a year and nearly 8000 miles later, got brand new frame installed by a difrent dealership than I bought it with almost no grief

Yea, call Yamaha anyway as others are suggesting. This problem afflicted a small number of the '06 bikes so it's a known issue. Here in the US Yamaha replaced the frame even if it was out of warranty. Doesn't hurt to ask...

Yamaha WILL replace the frame at their expense. Go to the local dealers and fight for it. Don't take no for an answer. We've already got documented proof from prior owners who were not under warranty who have had the frame replaced at no cost to the owner.

Well he must have been riding it when it cracked, it did not crack under the pressure of being parked in his garage....

I have seen another similar crack, but the bike was involved in a front end collision.

It's been a while. Update = My frame is getting repaired by a enginnering company who are certified in straightening & Aluminium welding frames. Basically the bike has to be stripped for them to do the repairs & paint, lucky for me i am not paying for it !!!. Hopefully in a few weeks she will be looking as good as new, will post pics of repair.

It the repair being done at Yamaha's cost?

I always thought welds were the strongest part of an area.

Yamaha should stand behind that regardless of warranty. That is an obvious factory defect that could have put you in danger. Threaten a law suit.
