XV Project
Pete,
Look through the "Perfomance" section of the Virago Forum. Sort through the crackpots & find the practical stuff that works. There is a Europeon TR-1forum, but not in English.
There is a premade 2 into one set-up with a jetted 40mm Mikuni for $600 claiming to increase...
XV Mods
I like the stock, Dunstall-style exhaust. MAC makes a performance exhaust for the XV.
I installed a K&N, may go with a single carb set-up at some point.
A more modern fork would be nice. The R shock works fine with the Progressive Spring & a few pounds of air.
The bike is long &...
Just bought one
I had always wanted one of the "Europeon" chain-drive XVs & finally found one this Summer. I thought about hot-rodding it (carbs, exhaust, etc.) but I find myself just wanting to ride it just as it is. (Oh yeah, I fixed the starter drive)I ride it almost exclusively...the FZ...
I hit one, too...
I hit a large wild turkey while riding on my Dr650 Suzuki.
Riding on a back dirt road, I came around a corner at speed & saw the bird on the left side of the road about 50 yds ahead. I hit the brakes & as I struggled to slow down, the bird started across the road. When I got...
Lowering links
I was considering lowering the bike because it is a little top-heavy two-up. (I an 5'6")
But as I think about it, I ride my Dr 650 with rider up & that is not lowered.
I have only a few hundred miles on the bike since I bought it, but I will wait & get a few more miles on the...
Found the problem
When I pulled the air box cover, I discovered the padding that I had put on top of the battery had sucked into the snorkel & the K&N.
Thanks for all the help with what turned out to be simpls fix!
I am installing a set of Pro-tek lowering links on the rear of my 2003 FZ1. Can anyone tell me if I have to adjust the spring/dampening with this mod?
Thanks in advance.
My Older Stable
In addition to my FZ1 & Dr 650 Suzuki, I have several Yamaha XS650s. Lots of parts/options available for them. Also have an '86 Radian & an XS750 triple that will be a cafe racer by Spring.
Still starving...
Battery/charging is Ok, as I have repeatly started it up while trying to solve this problem. Flashers work fine with lights on.
I also thought about an electrical issue.
Fuel pump is the next suspect.
Still starving...
When the problem began, I was almost home after a 100 mile ride (The bike ran fine the entire time) It began to sputter as I accelerated, ran OK when I slowed entering a 40MPH zone & pulled into my driveway.
I will get the multimeter out to check the coils, but my gut feeling...
Still starving for fuel
I do not think it is a jetting issue.
It start & runs perfectly on the stand.
Yes, it will rev all the way up when on the stand, but under load, it cuts out at 5000RPMs.
When the RPMs drop it again runs fine until I get up to 5000.
???????????????????????
2003 FZ, new to me. 17K miles. Ran perfectly for about 350 miles, now at 5000 RPMs engine cuts out until RPMs go under 5000, then runs fine.
Checked fuel line for kinks & removed the fuel filter...no change.
Starts & idles, runs fine under 5000 RPMs.
Any ideas?
