ECUnleashed ECU Flash

Initial Impressions

Initial impressions:

Bike set up: PCIII with “zero”map, Arka slip-on, rest of bike bone stock, new chain and sprockets, new tires.

I rode a familiar loop with tight 1st gear corners and a few 3rd gear sweepers. I rode at a moderate pace, nothing crazy. Some stop and go on the way back. Not enough open road to do 4th gear roll ons.

Cold Start: Jumped to life right away, held idle smoothly, and cleanly.
Cold Operation: Very smooth, throttle is tractable.
Heat Saturated Hot Start: No issues, springs to life easily and quickly.
Low End Throttle Response: Very good, very snappy. Fuel map feels spot on.
Standing Start in 2nd Gear: Very smooth, requires just a little clutch slip to get going, motor is very smooth, no lugging at all.
Gear Restrictions: Gone, holy cow! Ran the bike to red line in 3rd, 131 mph, front wheel kept wanting to go up. The fueling is spot on for making lots of power.
Fuel Cut: Traffic became too heavy to get into that range. I’ll take it on the highway tomorrow. I also need to find some faster sweepers to try maintenance throttle too.
Mileage: Seems to be the same as before, about 38/39. I need to run a full tank through it to know for sure.

So, thus far you hate it, eh? ;) Sounds like a NICE upgrade to me thus far! Says to self.... "Start saving your lunch money Eric!" Good news is, with an '09 ECU, they can turn it around in two weeks because the flash is already done.

So do you think its worth $350?. From you initial test ride there doesn't seem to be much different besides hitting redline in 1st to 3rd?, but when in real world riding would you do this on the FZ1? maybe 3rd on a track?. Good on you mate for being then guinea pig, IMO for the $$$ i would have a IM & quickshifter instead.

Well kneedown I went for a ride today with two mates, myself on the FZ a 06R1 and 05 FJR, did the first 100km in 24 min, redline every gear. Out where I live ( middle of the bush ) a ride means an absolute flogging. Sometimes we set out for a nice quite ride but it ALWAYS turns into a fairing bashing shootout.

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT DYNO TESTING!!!!:poke::)

Yes the Dyno doesn't tell it all. Still, after all the wait won't the fellas at AFI do some (free??) back to back testing for you to back up the claims?

so far so good. Let us know about the fuel cut. For those who want to keep their bike stock, this is a great option to extract performance. But dyno charts won't tell you much expect for peak power as in recent issue of SR where they used the ECUUnleashed flash on the 2011 ZX-10R. The power curves only show a meagre lift except at top where they gained 15rwhp and 600 rpms to the redline. IMO the bump in redline was all that was needed to reach the peak as FZ1 is still gaining power in all dyno charts you see when the redline hits. It is there, just need to unleash it.

I am being very factual with this, not subjective. So far this is significantly better than the 2006 flash. Not sure what year you have but the fuel accuracy is much better than the stock 2006 flash.

Will I get it on the dyno? Yes. But that isn't going to happen for a couple of weeks. I can tell you than peak hp is the same or a little better than a PCIII with a custom tune.

While your opinion is an IM & QS you'd still need to add a PCIII and an FCE. If you want a bunch of stuff hanging off your bike by all means go do it.

The below is not directed at you Kneedown.

I'm also very close to telling the whole lot of you to pi$$ off. I'm just blown away by people who have no experience with something jumping to conclusions and coming off as the expert. I've tried to be very transparent, frank and objective but apparently if the whole thing is not summed up in a single word; "its great" or, "it sucks" no one seems to get that.

Let me finish testing the damn thing before a conclusion is drawn.

I hope I'm not in the "telling the lot of you to pi$$ off" group lol
Pete, I think that some people are just frustrated (as you most probably are too) at how long it has taken for ECU unleashed to flash your ECU, as it has been over 5 months since you first mentioned you were going to get it done.
Obviously you also are a bit pissed off at some of the feedback you have received so far and I think a lot of it is due to still not having any hard evidence of it's worth or not.
There has been so much expectation of this mod by many people and we all can't wait to hear the final results of your testing.

Hellgate, I appreciate what your doing, and will patiently wait for your info. I understand your 'p*&#@ o&%' attitude, as when I was drag racing, not only my bike, but being a 'hired rider' and testing 'stuff', guys w/the same bikes I was racing wanted info 'NOW'!!! I'd make a change, and while 'seat of the pants' were saying 1 thing, E.T./speed slips were what I was looking at (ahhhh, this was the late 70's/early 80's!!!!! LONG before dyno's were so available!) Like I said, thanks for X'perimenting w/the bike!

Quite frankly, my entire ideas towards my FZ have changed due to my 'track day'. My bike is almost 'perfect' for my definition of a sport-tourer, w/the only addition needed being hard bags. Over the next few months, I'll cogitate about 'mods', but am seriously thinking of leaving the FZ 'as is' and buying a hardcore 'track bike'!
