I want to start this thread to sort of keep a running note on my suspension setup. I'll do my best to document the whole process along the way.

I'll start with a recent email (last 20 minutes... :D )

make sure to post plenty of pics as I was thinking about replacing front springs instead of the whole R1 swap at the very least i gotta do my fork oil

7.3 lbs of pure joy arrived today and she was worth the weight... I mean wait! I am so damned anxious to get this installed and tested!

From what I'm hearing, other riders who had Lee set up their shocks did not change much on this as delivered. I'm going to give it a thorough test before making any changes. I'll note all nuances I find before trying to adjust any of them away. So long as I have these "stock" settings to come back to, I'm OK. :D

This is just what I want to do. I'll be watching intently and waiting for the time when I can use this as instructions for my own suspension upgrade. Congrats on such a beautiful shock. I'm sure it'll make your rear end happy.

I tried it (Penske) out right out of the box. First impression is not good. VERY uncomfortable and it might need a ton of adjusting. I don't know if it was because I didn't have full gear on or what but it really hurt my arse!

I hope it's much better after mounting in the bike. : oops: : oops: : oops: :rofl:

Did you make sure it was properly lubricated? :eek5: Be careful when mounting it.

Saturday is looking good for the rear shock. If I am ambitious enough, I might do the HEL lines as well but I don't know if I want to take the whole day to get the trifecta and have the forks done too. Actually, without two helpers, I can't do the forks. Michele and my daughter won't be there and my son likely already has plans.

The rear shock shouldn't take more than 45 minutes and that is stopping for photos to document it. The brake lines, another 30 - 45 minutes. The test ride? A couple hours. :yes:
 
the front suspension can be done by yourself if you're a little creative... I did mine the first time with the bike on the center stand.. I then put 2 eye bolts into the bottom stud on a wall behind me and ran a rope from one eyelet, over the rear of the bike, through the grab handles and tied off to the other eyelet.. that was enough to keep the front end up in the air while I pulled the front wheel, then the forks one at a time.

Thanks Aaron. I've made a block that I put under the headers after forcing the rear down that keeps the front off the ground.

The issues I need help with are setting the sag (people to hold the bike for me) and the fork spring compression. It takes two hands to compress the springs and there's no hands left to get the spring clip on. From what I understand, it's not so hard with the compression leg? Dunno.... this will be my first ever attempt with USD forks. Non-USD was a breeze!

Are there any instructions on how to replace the shock anywhere on the forum ? Just ordered mine 2 days ago, and would like to do it myself if it's not too complicated.

There will be soon! Actually it is quite easy. What did you order? If you ordered the Penske from Traxxion, they give VERY detailed instructions with the shock and it is specific to the bike you ordered it for complete with pictures.

I learned a little trick on the static sag up front... zip ties around the fork tubes.... makes it easy to measure....

I'm used to working by myself a lot...

as for compressing the springs... can't help you there.. on my forks, it's a one man job.
