fz1 sucks for touring....

Some guys add grip pads to the tank. They can help take the strain off wrists and back by allowing you to support yourself by gripping the tank with your knees. I have ridden bikes with these and they really do help, as they give you the option of how to support yourself on the bike and let you give one area a rest occasionally. They also add control to your riding.

+1000 on the Tank Grip Pads. I went with Stompgrip for $50 and would say it is more than worth every penny. Braking and Acceleration is so much easier because you stay put in the saddle where you want to be. Being on the naked it also helps with maintaining core stability to deal with wind.

I don't care how much time you put on the stock seat, it will NEVER be comfortable.

I think that depends on the individual. I have only felt the need to change one seat (919) on my last 11 bikes. Every other bike was comfortable enough to at least manage through 600 mile days. Some were more comfortable than others but I have owned a first gen and ridden the second gen and never felt the seat was supreme shit.

I got a Corbin for the VFR because it was a fantastic deal but I probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

I was much more comfortable on my stock seat than the corbin.

I can say that STOMPGRIP tank pads are amazing. Had a set on my R6, and they helped ALOT. I had almost the same setup on my FZ1 as I did on my R6, but the R6 was more comfy to me, hence the reason I went to the R1.

R6 setup - stomp grip pads, corsa zero gravity wind screen, throttle lock

FZ1 setup - Zero gravity touring screen, throttle lock.

Other than that they were stock. Find ergos that suit you. I bet changing bar position and rear sets will help for you. I was going to do that if I didn't sell the FZ1.

That's 'cause you're not a fat-arse American like me. ;) :o

hmmm I guess it depends on what type of bike you had before.? I went from a 2006 Vmax(7 years) to a 2007 FZ1 and it is way more comfy 400 miles a day and I am a little sore 200 with out even thinking about it..It also depends on the type of riding if I just keep my butt planted in one spot it will get sore if we mix some curves in and I move around I never notice at all.

I had a few piss weak little 250's about 10 years ago. Never rode more than 100km at a time.

I should add that I know the title is misleading given my lack of touring experience. I was just tired and sore when I wrote it.:squid:

This is mine before most of the mods in 2009, about 3 months after I bought it. My wife and I took a trip from NH to MI and back. See the custom seat, the camelback and the fully loaded bike... handled very well and we only stopped for fuel and one night at a hotel.

After the first 90min my back was killing me and my ass was numb. How the Hell do you guys do hours and hours on a fz1?? I need a new seat and adjustable rearsets I reckon.

I have done 3,000 mile trips, 500 mile days on the stock seat and pegs with no issue. It is all about what is right for you.

Bag Question

Speaking of touring on an FZ1. I have a gen 1 and am hoping to secure a Gen2 shortly. I was thinking the GIVI bags that are the Easylock Hybrid bags mount up to a FZ8 but do not call out a FZ1. Do you think they are the same back there? Would they fit?

Thanks Guys. Yes I intend to tour some...

I bought a dririder tail bag approx 35-45 litres, it has straps to secure it rather than a mounting plate. Came in handy for sure
