ECUnleashed ECU Flash

Track Bikes as 'money pits': well, motorcycles aren't exactly 'investments' now, are they? I don't want to spend the $$$ on my FZ to make it more track worthy (rear sets/exhaust/different seat/etc) and have to change it back and forth for sport-touring/track day/etc. A 600 'track bike', depending on 'stuff on the bike' starts at $3000 approximately. So, I'll start seriously looking for a track bike in Dec/Jan and go from there.

I totally agree. I want to find a dedicated track bike. I would be wrecked if i wrecked my FZ. That prevents me from pushing harder. I need a track slut.

Thanks for the comparison Pete. I look forward to seeing the back to back results on the dyno. Fixing the abrupt throttle inputs on the 6 would be well worth the money.

Anyone from the FZ6 side call AF1 about a flash? Ed mentioned he got a call today.

While I was there he showed me the Piasini device. It's a simple black box with RCA jack ports and a set of cables to slide over the ECU pins. Each make and model is different. Ed mentioned that the R&R takes a very large amount of time. The most recent R1 flash took about a year to develop.

Oh they will suck money out of you wallet just like a boat will. Yes you can get a bike for $3,000 but just have another $2,000 in reserve, you'll send that just in sorting costs.

Without the bling on my bike I bet I spent $2,500 sorting. Valve adjustment, tires, brake pads, dyno tune X2, new coils, new plugs, bolts ($200), suspension rebuild, OEM air cleaner assembly, misc OEM parts, etc. Bling was another $2,000 or so; exhaust, rearsets, case covers.

This winter I want to do new body work and paint.

Then there's the pit gear...

Endless...

I have been reading this thread hoping to see the dyno info. I did call Ed today and inquired about my 08. he said the bike would be a new animal after the flash. He was very helpful! I just picked up my bike with 2300 miles on it. Has a Two Brothers and BMC filter and that is all as far as I know. I feel more confident in doing the flash first instead of the FCE, Ignition Module and a PCIII. Just curious how close they got with the actual numbers on the dyno.

Case closed.

Testing: 6th gear 100% TP step testing…graphs were the exact same except at the very redline, 12850 rpms on my machine…their box seems to have about an extra 400 revs in it.

Part throttles all looked AWESOME…no power to be gained with any PCIII mapping, maybe you could add 1-3 points of fuel just to make it a hair richer so it might be a hair smoother….I’d leave it alone, it’s REALLY good.

Tried doing sweep tests in 1-2-3 gears….all I got was tire slip and wheel hop on the dyno. Our dyno really likes 6th gear testing, ie the most 1:1 ratio since our drum is so light. We’d need a heavy drum accelerometer (super old dynojet) to really test it out, or a consistent drag racer rider.

I was able to get step testing through the 4000-7500 revs to hold and lock in 3rd gear before tire would slip and bike would hop……new ECU has +10hp at 100% TP through that range in 3rd gear. That’s a HUGE gain right in the meat of usable power. That’s all the data I could get…..I know 1-2 gears are probably the same too, and higher up in the revs too.

Then I went to blind tests…..Micah, Me, and another rider all road tested the bike back-to-back with an “unknown” ECU….totally blind, totally random…..we all picked the ECUunleashed as the one we wanted left in there, hands down. I got notes from their rides.

We could really notice the 1-2-3 power difference, and how smooth it was picking back up on the throttle, how smooth it was on decell, 6th gear roll-ons was different too….I never took it over 10k revs on the street and I could instantly tell one was better.

As you know, the 6th gear 100% runs don’t tell the full story….that’s just for people that ride dynos

I’m going to Austin tomorrow, and I’ll bring the bike with me.

Cool project…it runs great.

Thanks

Ed Cook

WOW, I may actually do this and strip down all other mods to fund my daytona... Any confirmation on removing the 1-3 gear hp restrictions? Sorry, I couldn't infer from your descriptions.

I think from his post there is a seat of the pants difference but because of wheel slip and hop on the dyno used no defined data was collected.

I'm still considering going with a flashed ECU at some point. Looking forward to seeing a few others take the plunge first and getting some more feedback.
So far this looks like a great option.

Thank you !! for all the great information.

Still hope to get a chance to see a dyno chart.

Next time you get the hopping on the dyno strap that sucker down tight and put your fattest buddy on the passenger seat. Dropping the rear tire pressure down can help also.

Hellgate, Did you talk to someone in particular at this company who did the reflash? And the company's name is ECUnleashed and if I google that I'll get the correct place for the reflash, rite?

Track Bike: a buddy of mine has a tricked out '06 Gixxer 1000 w/'wheels' (forged!), Yosh pipe, sharkskin race plastic, suspension work/etc/etc . . . you get the pic. He wants more then I want to pay and we're 'dickering' at the moment. Yes, its more bike then I want, but if the price is right . . . .

Yes you can Google ECUnleashed to get their web site, or I can provide it | Performance ECU Reflashing Remapping & Tuning Company – ECUnleashed Tuning Technology :) . They work through retailers who actually do the flash itself. Or you can call AF1 Racing directly, ask for Ed Cook. 830-626-3966.

The track bike sounds KILLER! The big Gixxer is an amzing bike. I'd love a set of forged wheels, they look so cool.

This is great news! I wonder if Ed would be willing to give a group discount for a bunch of us this winter... let's see if we can get a 5 and/or 10 person rate? I'll come up with the coin somehow!

Thanks for being the pioneer Pete! I appreciate your effort and patience along the way to take this on and share your results. to you Top!
