My first riding jacket..

So today I was looking through my new "Fast Bikes" mag that I got because it came with the balaclava.. I was looking at a thing about riding jackets and since I want one I was talking to my dad about it...

Turns out he bought this a while back and didn't like it. Its been sitting in his basement for the last year. It was a medium, and it fits me perfect! So he gave it to me... :)

So that should be good for the like 65 and up degree days...

Gonna try it out Sunday, its nice having something fitted vs just a leather coat that just acts like a parachute.

Hey at that price it's great! Just use it with the wind-proof liner and wear a long sleeve t-shirt underneath and that should be fine for the temps this upcoming Sunday.
 
These are great jackets. I have the older model of the same one and it is still holding up. The liner is wind/waterproof. I did upgrade all the armor in mine too. Nice freebie! :tup:

Tony is right... some undergear with the liner is great. Also, if you have a MC rain suit, the rain jacket over this also adds some excellent weather protection. Last, you can try the leather jacket OVER it then you'll have leather and armor at the same time. :D
 
All that money your spending on your bike and you haven't got any riding gear?
Obviously you haven't crashed before. Trust me it hurts a lot and good riding gear can reduce those injuries.

Man that is the truth. This morning I was looking at the scars on my arms in the mirror as I was dressing. My old leathers blew up in a crash and my forearm was scraped to almost the bone. That crash was in about 1987 and the scar it finally begining to fade so it doesn't stand out so much.

Papa - Make sure the jacket has a snug fit so if you do crash the armor doesn't twist around from where it is supposed to be.
 
I went a long time wearing simple jackets and coats. I finally found a riding jacket at something like 60% off, I liked the look so I bought it.

WOW, I found out that a purpose made riding jacket is well worth it. In cold weather they are warmer then a normal coat, in hot weather (with the vents open) they are cooler. Plus you have the protection of the pads and durable outer material.

If anyone's on the fence about riding gear, there was a site that shut down a couple years ago and illustrated the seriousness of wearing proper gear. I'm not some gear Nazi trying to preach to you, but it's always good to be equipped with some extra knowledge that might help save your life one day.

I've seen people crash in regular jeans & riding jeans and they are both pretty worthless. I've crashed in full textile gear at 25mph and had to throw it out afterwards. It saved me other than a little road rash, but it was garbage afterwards. From that point on I bought a plain black leather two-piece suit for $250 and I've not regretted it once since then

Oh I tried it today. Went around the block, it was cold out and the wind went straight through this thing. Definitely going to be awesome in the summer, not for the cold though LOL!

Ill stick with my leathers for the cold.

I hear that! I looked at my arm yesterday and was wondering if it will ever go away. I was lucky that the leathers didn't even rip, but the heat from the slide burned my forearm through it.

I was very lucky that my back returned to normal after an off-road scrape (more like a drag) along some railroad tracks got me when I was young and stupid. That had to be at least 15 years ago now, but man, when they removed the debris from the wounds across my entire upper body, bandaged me up and put a net over me to hold the bandages on, I knew it was time to stop riding the dirt bike in t-shirts.

That last one is really sad.

I basically after reading all of this sad stuff, have promised myself to always wear my gear. Whats nice is this jacket my dad gave me really really breathes, so that should be fresh in the summer.
 
Yes, there are a lot of textile jackets that are nice and cozy in the winter. The liners and wind stoppers do a lot to keep the cold out.

A friend of mine has the Scorpion Strike and it's a very nice textile jacket that is very usable for 4 seasons, he finds it almost too warm for the fall and puts the liner in for winter. It's on sale for $75 at the link above :)
