New member welcome thread...

G'day

I'm Dave, and old rider with a new (2008) bike! Picked the FZ1 off the showroom floor because I didn't want a tank, and I didn't want a racer. Imagine my suprise that I got both! I currently work with electronics and computer systems, but am not afraid of being my own mechanic. Glad to see such a large group that already found this amazing bike!
Thanks.

Welcome Dave! As you have already found out the FZ1 is a very versatile motorcycle ;)

motorcyclist again after 18 years

New to the group because a month ago I picked up a used 2003 FZ1- first motorcycle in 18 years. Got out of cycling due to getting married, getting a house, having kids etc. A new job that requires alot of travel made me think about getting a vehicle that would get better than 20 mpg. When you are 41 years old and suddenly have a motorcycle, you can tell people are thinking mid-life crisis, Viagra and worse.

My old bikes were a 71 Yamaha R5 (350cc 2-stroke), a 71 Kawasaki Mach III (500cc 2-stroke), and a 82 Kawasaki KZ1000R ELR (bored to 1166cc). I'm not sure what I expected, but motorcycles seem to have gotten alot better over the years.

I thought I wanted a Kawasaki ZRX1200R after seeing my brother's; but after a quick 2000 miles, I'm starting to think I got lucky finding an FZ1 instead.

I am sure that you will love the new ride. Motorcycles have definately come a long way since the eighties. I went from a mid eighties bike onto a 2008 FZ 1 and wow what an improvement!

Hi all.

My name is Craige, I'm 46, father to six and grandfather to six more.

Divorced after 20 years and now in a long term relationship with a beautiful lady whom I've brought to the dark side, she now has a FZ6s.

I started an adult apprenticeship five years ago as a diesel mechanic which I've now completed.

I've been riding bikes for 30 years now and the '07 Fazer is my sixteenth bike and my second FZ1(the first was an "05).

I've given my bike a Yoshi TRC muffler, a PC3, K&N, FE, Galfer S/S brake lines, Yamaha gel seat, Titax short levers, plus lots of little blingly bits.

The next upgrade will be a new rear shock, I haven't decided on that one yet.

And damn I love this bike!

Hello!

Hi everyone. I'm Aaron. My in-laws got me started on bikes a couple of years ago with a Sportster 1200. Rode the brother-in-law's modded 2001 FZ1 and fell in love. Just traded the Sportster in for the wife's 2009 FZ6R, and my 2009 FZ1 is being delivered next week.

Welcome Aaron. Nice choice for the wife and best choice for you, big upgrade from the Sportster. What color is your FZ1 going to be? You must be anxious to get it!

Hello from South Mississippi

Hello,
My name is Scott and I'm 47 years old at 6' and 240lbs. I had bike when younger but when the family came along kinda gave it up. As my oldest was getting interested in bikes it rekindled my love for them as well. He bought a salvage 1990Honda VFR 750 and rode it for a while.

By now I was interested. We like to work on things so we picked up a couple salvage bikes to fix. He got a 05 Kawasaki ZX10R and I got an 06 Honda CBR1000RR. Very fast bikes.... He and I did some trackdays on them. A good experience...

I recently ran across a deal on a 2004 FZ1 I couldn't pass up. My primary ride is a 97 Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird. It was the fastest thing on the planet you could buy in 97. It has since handed that title over to the likes of the Hyabusa and the ZX14 and the like.... It is electric smooth and still can hold it's own with most and arguably one of the most beautiful bikes ever built...

But I digress... To be honest, I'm not the biggest Yamaha fan in the world as I had a bad experience with one. I bought my youngest son a brand new TTR90 a few years back and had nothing but trouble. Bad experience and kinda wrote Yamaha off.

Well I've been on this Fazer for a little while and so far so good. It doesn't have the raw power of the Bird but it has enough to get the job done. I commute 80 miles round trip to work and need something with some nuts to keep me interested and to put a smile on my face when rolling on the throttle. So far the Fazer has delivered...

The Bird is a larger bike but does well in the twisties but the Fazer is more agile and lighter. The fazer is more buzzy at speed but to much so. Not as much wind protection as the Bird but it wasn't built for that.

So far a positive experience and looking forward to putting many miles on it... I think the Bird has a worthy stable mate....

Scott

Welcome Scott and congrats on the FZ1. A lot can be done with the Gen I to make it into the bike you dream of. Have a look at the Gen I mod threads and see what they have done thus far. There's a lot of performance to be had for short dollars.

Hey! Just want to say hi. I'm new to this forum. I drive a 03 fz1. I had it for 2 years and did 20 000 km.

Welcome to Scott and FazerRider. Happy to have the both of you here. Two more "GenI" boys is always cool!!

Hello all, Sully here. Own a '09 FZ1 and love it. I just shed 150 lbs coming off an FJR and back down to a twisty road eater. It's been tiring throwing a FJR around likne a sport bike but I got it because my wife wanted to ride two-up. Well, she changed her mind and got a bike of her own a few years back. I can't believe it took me this long to drop the weight and get a bike more suited to my love of chasing the next new curvy road.

Even better news is that we are picking up my wife's new bike this Wednesday - you guessed it - a new '09 FZ1 to pace me through the twisty roads.

Welcome Aaron. Nice choice for the wife and best choice for you, big upgrade from the Sportster. What color is your FZ1 going to be? You must be anxious to get it!

Cobalt Blue. I've been wanting to ride so badly that I seem to be riding her bike and hoping no one notices the pink/purple. :embarrased:

:welcome: Aaron, great story! It's great to have a bunch of family members enjoying the same pastime. Post some shots of the whole crew when your bike arrives.

I'll be sure to get pictures, once the Harley crowd starts speaking to me again. :laugh2:
