Springtime Makeover Thread

I got home today and with the help of an electric heater a friend let me borrow, I removed the wheels from the FZ1 and cleaned the heck out of them, getting ready for tomorrow. By 10am I should be shod with the new Bridgestone 023's. The bike is stripped down to the bare frame with the exception of the upper fairing which I'll remove tomorrow. It was too dark this evening so I'll snap a couple of pics tomorrow. I did, however, get a visit from the mailman today at work. Here are the goodies that arrived.........

My decal set for my lower fairings. Not everyone's cup of tee, but I love race stickers! There is still a couple missing but should be here soon.

I brought the lowers upstairs with me to clean and prep for decal placement.

Also arriving is my newest project, my new "Halo Light" set which will be posted in this thread....http://www.998cc.org/forum/gen-i-mods/10254-halo-thread.html

So tomorrow I'm off from work and hope to get alot accomplished. I also want to announce my son's Driver's Road Test tomorrow at 3pm. Richie is all excited. Wish him luck!

Nicely coming together! :D Wish you lived closer so we could help each other out! We're going to the paint shop on Friday and pick her shade of the mystery color and have the guy show us what he expects for prep sanding. Once we know, we'll blow though the parts this weekend and I'll drop them for paint early next week. Hope to have her road ready for a reveal in two to three weeks. :D

Go get 'em Richie! If he passes, is he going to get another bike? I fear he's turning to the dark side - cruisers...

Good question Brian. This particular road test is for the car. I want him to do the Rider's Safety Course to get his MC endorsement. Maybe his Mom would then approve of him riding. (Wishful Thinking).

On a sidenote, last Saturday when we were in the dealership, I happened to glance over from the parts counter, and there he was, checking out a used 1200 Sportster! So your fears may not be unfounded! I guess as long as he's on two wheels????

Good Luck to Richie on his Driving test.
You raised a fine young man Billy. You should be nothing but proud.

We need a "Spring time mods SHOW off at a group ride" thread.

Im begining to itch. lol

I figured that since I am getting a bunch of things for the bike this Spring, that I would devote one thread for all the goodies. They started trickling in this morning at work so I'm happy for that. Saturday I am starting disassembly of the parts going out for repair and paint so I'll post all my updates here. I'll probably be doing a few videos for the Brake Line Upgrade, Dyna Bead installation, plus others.

Here's the nice goodies that came today.

When Something Sounds Too Good To Be True......

I just got back from the new dealer down the block from me from having my tires mounted. I actually came home with the same thing I left with. Last Saturday when my son and I bought the spray polish, and the guy told us that he would mount (no balancing), my new tires for me for $20 dollars a pop I actually asked him again about the price. He repeated himself, yes, $20 bucks a piece but no balancing. I said man!, thats a home run!

Fast forward to this morning. I walk in with my wheels and new tires at 9am sharp. He takes my info and is taking unusually long on the computer. I'm wondering what all is he typing, so I ask him again. You told me $20 bucks a piece right? Then he gives me that "look". Twenty dollars????, I told you that???

I'm like, TIME OUT! My son comes over and refreshes his memory as to what he said and the kid starts the BS! I told him to save his breath and bring me my wheels and tires! I told him that I figured with new management, that things were different but I guess not. I had told him that I usually pay $60 buck OTD with my guy which was why I was happy to hear $20 each and right near my house! He was ready to charge me $20 each plus $85.00 labor rate! Have a nice day!!!

The best part is the mechanic comes out and tells me that he already broke the beads on both and removed the stems. I told him no problem, give them to me like that. So now they have already broken both beads for me (Bonus), and I could probably just pick up some spoons and do them myself!

I may run past Harbor Freight Sunday and get the $50 Tire Changer with some spoons and have a go at it. What do you think??? It will pay for itself with one change.

Lesson for today: If the deal sounds too good, it usually is!!!

Without a doubt! The guy would have been much farther ahead to either honor the price (taking the loss, if any, and explain that was a one time deal (cause he had a brain fart). The other would have been to give you the real price the first time and not waste either of your times. Now all he did was piss you off and create bad feelings on both sides of the counter.:doh2:

Thats my sentiments exactly Lee. When he originally told me the price, I had even said at that moment that I was paying $60 bucks OTD with my regular guy, and thats why I was happy about it. At that moment, he should have disclosed what it was going to cost. Did he actually think that I wanted to pay DOUBLE what I was normally paying??? Oh well, lesson learned. Even at 49, I'm still learning!

Sorry to hear about that experience Billy. It's a shame when dealers (and other shops) try to get over on customers like that. Oh well I guess he just lost another customer...

Best of luck Richie with the road test. You've had a good teacher in your dad so I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors

I,ll second that! Good luck Ritchie!

Not to hijack my own thread, but we're home and Richie passed his driving test!!! Man, did he have one "bruiser" of an examiner! I even got yelled at for video taping the exam from the street!! Haha! If it wasn't so important for him to get his license I would have given her HELL! The main thing is that he got his license! Thanks for all the well wishes.

As we speak my bike is being fitted with the exact brake lines and with the same color....along with the nissin master cylinder...can't wait to get the bike back for a drive.
