The Winter 2011 Bike Projects Thread

You only ask this because you do not own one yet.

Coming soon (Daytona 675)! Once I graduate in Dec ....
Oh it's a money pit all right. :D

The current body work is in good shape but it has been repaired several times, or maybe just once, but a big crash. I just want a new, fresh set of skins. I'm also going from an SS tail to a SBK tail that uses a foam pad instead of the OEM saddle.

The Yoyodyne subframe is simply too cool, and my current OEM subframe has a crack in the tail of it. It's a cast piece and looks heavy. The Yoyo is an aluminum, welded frame. I'll need to fab up a battery bracket, etc. but nothing that $10.00 of band alu won't fix.

My current sliders are Vortex and have been down. I just want a new set, so Woodcraft of course.

Finally there is not a shift rod for my Woodcraft rearset that will take a DynoJet QS module so I asked WC to make one up. In turn they'll sell a shift rod for their 03-05 R6, and R6S rearsets as an option. The QS along with the slipper clutch is simply a dream.

Of the OEM parts I need a new puke bottle, I can't see the coolant level easily in the current one, and I need an genuine Yamaha clutch lever and bushing. The replacement from Cycle Gear isn't cutting the mustard.

And lastly I'm buying the tuning fork sticker for my top clamp.

I also have my eyes and ears open for a set of trick wheels. I missed a pair of Marchesini wheels for a steal the other day. Winter always brings out the bargains.

My FZ1, I simply love it! I raised my ConvertiBars one notch, about 7/8 of an inch. I've not tired them yet.

WOW, you are giving me tremors for my track ambitions! Looks like a lot of cool parts and slowly becoming a race bike; any plans?

No plans to race, I did that 25 years ago. I just like to be able to ride fast. Remember my track bike was an AMA racer and already has a ton of trick pieces on it, so I just enhancing it. :D

You're going to love the 675, great bikes!

I looked to see if they had one for the ZX and once again I bought the bastard bike that has limited parts available.

I had told ya. That gen ZX6R was probably the best looking ZX but the most disliked one all over.

You may already have a nice aluminium subframe, that bike is very trick right out of the box. It's the one with the Big Piston Fork right?

No, BPF's were from 09 onwards and that gen is the best 600 out there. But I already have my eyes fixated on the Daytona since last 2 years. Going to pick up a 07 Sprint ST for my friend today. Yipee!

Pete, those are some tasty welds...

I plan on doing Eric's blinker mod in the headlights, a new rear tire, and a mps auto sfifter, an maybe some rim strips. Hellgate that is a nice looking subframe what a great weight saver. Looking forward to see it on the bike

For 3500.00 with 3400 miles there was no better deal out there. Then figure in I bought the 01 zx6r back for next to nothing and sold it for 2800.00 and I'am about to sell my KTM for 1800.00. I guess I can deal with the obscurity of the 08. It still kicks ass and is a blast to ride. Maybe by the end of next year the Bimmer 1000 rr will be my track steed.

Here's the subframe install and the tail piece. I'll do the anti-draft tomorrow. The uppers arrived with a pretty nasty crack, which is odd because all of the other body parts a fine, and the shipping box was unmolested. I got an email into STG.

The install took about 2.5 hours. Not too bad for having never done this before, as I had a couple of false starts.

My winter mods are to make the bike hold more nitrous so I can run 8s next year.
Going with ape valve springs,NC-2 nitrous controler, nitrous spraybar for the airbox,Lightweight battery, air shifter, and a new tire to put the power down.

I may get my rims and rearsets powder coated at the same time I do my mountain bike frame. That's it! Then I will have nothing left I want to do on this bike other than maintenance and gas.

I'm going to tr to paint my 97 Dodge Ram. It's the 3/4 ton Sport Package and I really like the shape and angles of the truck so I'm hoping a new paint job will bring it back to life.
I found a STEAL on the air compressor from Tractor Supply. I picked up a 26 gallon for $150 and 3 paint guns (that seemed higher quality than the Harbor Freight guns). So picked up the whole set up for less than $200. I'm really pleased with the price.

I also picked up a PDR dent remover for less than $50. I will do some body work and then I will sand and paint.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I REALLY want this KBlock sanding block set:

All tools and set up for around $300. I am happy. Now I will have this stuff for any further projects so I'm happy.

At that price who is complaining, LOL :D My friend got his 07 with 4800 miles for $5500 in April.

I hope to see some action shots.

Winter project

Here is my 'winter-project'--a 1994 HELIX. I have plans to upgrade it. Fresh fluids, tires, a good cleaning and waxing. Install a set of rear flashing brake lights, hook up the LED lights in the top trunk, etc. Ohh, , , maybe install a decal or two ? eh?
Ohh,ohh, it's 'for-sale' too as you can see. I have my foxy friend doing the selling for me.

R6 Update: Lowers mounted, in the process of tweaking uppers, rear shock removed for additional tweaking, new swingarm ('09 with 2,200 miles), new rear wheel ('09 with 2,200 miles) and new battery tray/box ('09 with 2,200) miles all arrived.

After I priced bearings and bushings to rebuild the swing arm and linkage, ~$225.00, it was cheaper to buy the whole thing used, $59.00.

My rear wheel has had a million tires put on is a chipped and scrathed, the used on is practially brand new, original tire.

Off to the painters this Saturday if all goes well. I have paint surprise in store.

The Orange Dragon almost done

Update:

The big Orange Beast is in the shop getting all the maintenance done at once. I had a horrible feeling that my oil leak was a crack in the block where the side stand mounts. I dodged that bullet (whew!). As it turns out it was a wrecked "O" ring on the oil presssure sensor that is behind the side stand bracket. The Valves are done, Coolant is flushed and replaced, a new front tire is mounted (that the shop didn't want to put on because it wasn't the same as the rear) and it is waiting for a new rear disc (and pads). I wore out the rear disc on all the fun, sliding, downhill dirt with the ABS shut off. Steering head bearings checked and repacked. New Oil and Filter. Battery tender (Optimate 4) lead installed for when it come home.

I have not seen the bill yet but it will be impressive (OMG).
Done-$1592.25

After that (if I can afford it) I will put on a new heavy duty skidplate and side stand reinforcement braket, so that I avoid the cracked block scare again.

I still have to install the insulation on the inside (Engine side) of the tanks.

UPDATE: Got the grip heaters installed on both bikes and they work great! I also got the fuel line mod done on her bike so both are done up right now. Tomorrow, I'm going to flush and fill her cooling system and change the oil on both machines. I will also begin tearing down the front of my bike.

  • DONE - Install heated grip elements
  • Paint and install Sport Scoops
  • Repair and reinstall the CD pods
  • Marine grade Power outlet
  • Rebuild GPR Steering Stabilizer (Gasket and fluid replacement)
  • Replace fork oil with 5 weight and 7.5 weight mix
