Not a new member, but figured I’d post up since I just got myself another FZ1. I’m excited to be back on another awesome FZ1!

I need to refamiliarize myself with the bike and mods. This forum has definitely died down from when I used to frequent it...

Anyways, I just got a 2009 that is bone stock down to the original tires! It only had 6,900 miles on it. The elderly gentleman who owned it had decided to quit riding and it sat for a while. He kept it full of fresh gas and on a tender and started it up occasionally so the tank is still squeaky clean and it runs like new.

The 50 mile ride home on those bricks was a bit interesting to say the least. They were hard as a rock and I couldn’t even dig my finger nail into them. The very first left turn I felt the bike slip! The rear had a nice flat spot from only freeway riding so the bike would barely even turn in without wanting to immediately stand up.

Needless to say, it’s now shod with a fresh pair of sticky Dunlop Q3+’s. I’ve also put new EBC HH pads in it. The stock ones still had at least 3/4 pad life left...but I wanted to start new.

For suspension mods I just got a brand new Nitron R1 shock. I’m also searching for a clean straight set of 04-07? R1 forks for sale. It seems they are getting a little hard to find these days. I’d like to get a set complete with calipers if I can. Then I’ll probably freshen them up and decide if I’m gonna go with the Traxxion AK20’s like I had in my last FZ1. A bit pricey, but worth every penny in my book. I plan to do the occasional track day so I want good suspension...

Ive also ordered a set of Luimoto seat covers, LED headlight bulbs, 16 tooth oem sprocket, chain, ZG touring screen, and a Speedo Healer. I’m also researching luggage options. So far I have a Cortech tail bag but I’m really liking the SW Motech saddle bags...

Happy Riding!

wow you were brave enough to ride on 12 yr old tyres for that long?? I would be afraid they'd just explode or lose pieces down the way congratulations on making it home in 1 piece and of course congratulations for the re-purchase of an FZ1 and welcome back to the family! :) I wish you a lot of enjoyable miles

Hi all! New member here and I'm happy to be here with you all! I am a long time rider, live in Minnesota, retired Air Force. My first Yamaha was a brand new 1988 Yamaha FZR 1000 I purchased a long time ago! Great bike unfortunately sold many years ago.
I've had 20 or so motorcycles since then, all the big 4 and a few Ducati's, Harley's and one Aprilia and one BMW. I basically ride them a few years and trade or sell and like to experience other bikes, so many
good ones to try out. I prefer used bikes I can work on. (life long motorcycle, car and aircraft mechanic), but I have bought a few new ones also.
I just picked up my first FZ1. Its a 2001 that's completely stock down to the Helmet warning sticker on the gas tank by the fuel cap. ( already removed it!)
It has 53,000 miles on it and looks to have been taken care of, but is filthy dirty and it needs a complete wash/wax, degrease/cleaning and tune up before I will be satisfied with it. I have no idea the conditions of the valve clearance, carbs need a rebuild, (hard to start), carb boots are all cracked,
age of coolant or brake fluid/fork oil, so I am gonna have to change all the fluids, and do a valve check/carb clean. While I'm doing all of that, I'm gonna change fork springs (Race Tech) as I weigh 220 lbs
and fluid. Also may purchase a used R6 shock on ebay for the rear. I plan on adding a new windscreen, slip on exhaust, new handle bars, and possible LED smaller turn signals in the future.
Thanks for having me here on your forum!

That sucker is clean for 55k miles. I'm guessing the pics were post wash-up.
Congrats and enjoy!

Hey, figured I should say Hi before posting.

I'm a rider from France. My bike is a 2010 FZ1-N ABS. She's old, ugly (seriously, black yellow is ... beurgh), cranky, missing some teeth in the front, but having an extra one in the back.
Got me a gear indicator, a legal "fullpower" procedure (because up until recently in France we were limited to 106hp) and a speedohealer because I like having things "neat and tidy".

Currently, the brat is not starting, hence why I came here to seek for some wisdom.

Ride safe y'all

Hello,
New owner of a 2008 FZ1. Been riding awhile, actually had a screen saver of the 1rst gen and timing wasn’t right. Fast forward 16 years, 8 bikes later and I was able to get one as a second bike for my GS. It had an imploded rotor so after a month of upgrades and maintenance I’m happy with the results. Look forward to getting more insights from the forum.
Greg

New member checking in from Colorado, just west of Denver. Diving into the forum and search function to learn more about these bikes. Just picked up a 2006 FZ1, looking forward to the riding season on something new for me.

Just getting back into motorcycling after a 30 year break. Wanted a 2010 Camaro SS, but pandemic prices made me quit looking. New search, found a mint looking 2001 FZ1 for $2500. 22,000 miles, needs some carberator work, fork seals. Quite the performance, still learning how to ride it.IMG_20210623_130340801.jpgIMG_20210623_130325766.jpg

That is a good score right there. Looks very clean!

When doing the carbs make sure to replace the valve needle seat O rings and check for crud in the seal surfscr
Clean very well and replace if necessary.

Harry Gold here in Upstate New York. I'm 51 and just bought my first sport bike. My wife of 27 years went from a Ninja 300 to a CBR 650F. I have a 2009 Honda Shadow 750 Spirit cruiser. And now I'm a proud owner of a 2009 FZ1. I couldn't be more excited. Wow, what fun! I'm still in awe of the power. I've only owned this for four days. But I can say is 3rd gear at 10k RPMs is out of this WORLD! I'm a safe rider, but I love to have fun.

Welcome!
They're detuned from the factory. The Vcyclenut flash replaces the timing the factory took out (under 5k rpm, 1rst, 2nd, and 3rd gears) and much more. My 2009 is like a different bike, snatchyness completely gone; totally smooth out of the hole now, and feels like a 150hp bike should; dropped a tooth to the gen 1 (2001-2005) 16 tooth front sprocket and AIS went byby too.
Tell Dave what mods you're doing or have done and he'll custom flash. Nothing but totally happy with his work.

Just picked up a 2006 FZ1 here in Scotland. I always liked the look of the FZ1 and one came up fairly local to me when I was looking for a naked road bike. It was neglected cosmetically but mechanically seems fine - A day cleaning it up has made it a little more presentable. Other than cleaning, the only work carried out so far is oil + filter and a new set of plugs which sorted out the extremely poor throttle response just off idle. A new pair of bar end mirrors and brake / gear change lever rubbers has it working well enough. Also sorted out a small ding on the front corner of the tank yesterday The only other attention it is likely to see anytime soon is to strip / grease the suspension linkage.

I have been riding bikes since I was a kid getting my first bike on the road (Suzuki TS50ER) in 1985 and have had all manner of bikes since then. Not too many Yamaha's over the years but I have fond memories of my RD250LC which was a riot. My favourite has always been the bike I have had at the time. The only other bike presently in the garage is my old GSXR600K1 track bike which I have owned for 10 years.
Aware that this is a US centered forum and to that end I used to live in Texas. Fond memories of riding TWS and MSRH trackdays on my GSXR750 - Great fun.

Brought this home last weekend:
2008. Yosh exhaust, braided brake lines, Renthal bars, aftermarket air/fuel mapper. It will sit beside my 2000 VFR800 (and my XSR700 until it gets sold).
This still has the original stock shock...22k mi, might need a swap. I'll get it registered and head over to W. VA for some riding in the next couple weeks. I'm in Northern Virginia, USA, been riding since I could push a bike and on the street since college. Work on my own bikes wherever possible, love trackdays and multi-day rides. Put between 3K and 5K a year on each bike, depending.

Anyone looking for a great little bike, hit me up with a PM the Rasberry Red XSR700 is on FB Marketplace and the XSR700 pages on FB. I'll work with members for something that works for both of us.

Hello, I'm Blue Flash (aka Steve).
I've been riding since the early 70s, and it's been FZ1s since 2005. Started with the Gen I in 2005, and went with the 2012 Gen II in 2012. After years as a nuke engineer and safety analysis of various versions, I'm working in the pipeline industry for a pipeline integrity service company. I pretty much do all my own work, and the FZ1OA site has been awesome over the years. It just doesn't seem to be as active or focused as it used to be.
The FZ1s have been great! Until I let a dealer do a valve adjustment. I needed some technical information and was having a hard time finding it on the FZ1OA site. Found the critical thread here. Thanks!!! So... here I am! Glad to have found this site! I have been setting up rides for several years since I returned to Texas, and try to ride about every weekend. Hopefully there are some others in here that are nearby, and we can get out to ride after my wrenching.

Blue flash…?

Does that possibly allude to your line of work, (crit…….) or choice of bike…?

Uh.... yes?
I was a criticality safety engineer for about 20 years before I escaped to the oil and gas industry. However, my first FZ1 (Gen I) was also the faster blue color. I guess it was a combination of the two. But in 15 years, you're the first person to recognize it and ask!
