Frame cracking is not really a "common" issue on GenII frame but a small percentage of the early bikes did have the issue. It is not so much a design flaw as a manufacturing defect. The vast majority of GenII frames are welded correctly and will hold up just fine.
Mr H, Yamaha might well replace your frame for you but the turbo hardware may throw things off. IMHO a factory replacement frame would be much more desireable than a rewelded cracked one so if it were me, I would pursue the issue with Yamaha . . . .
